Flow 2 – Purchasing and Managing Other eSIMs

The Other eSIMs tab addresses more complex scenarios without overwhelming everyday users. For a user who has not created any extra eSIM yet, the tab shows an empty state that explains the value of additional eSIMs: they can be used to manage multiple devices or to purchase plans for friends and family. The primary action is “Get another eSIM”.

Tapping this CTA triggers a cost-disclosure bottom sheet. Before the user configures anything, the sheet clearly states that purchasing an additional eSIM will incur an extra one-time charge on top of the first plan’s cost. The user can confirm with an “I understand” button or dismiss. Being explicit about this additional cost builds trust and pre-empts billing complaints.

Once the user proceeds, they land on a personalization screen where they can choose an avatar and assign a name to the eSIM. This step is subtle but important. In testing, it significantly reduced the chances of topping up the wrong eSIM later, especially for users managing multiple lines. Names such as “Work phone”, “Mum’s phone” or “Tablet” give each eSIM a clear identity.

After naming, the plan group bottom sheet appears, and the rest of the purchase journey mirrors the Primary flow: select a group, pick a plan from the list, then review the plan summary. In this case, the summary screen also shows a breakdown of the extra eSIM charge alongside the plan price so that the total feels transparent.

Once payment succeeds, the success screen focuses on installation and sharing. Because Other eSIMs are often used on a second device or by someone else, the screen prioritises actions like viewing the QR code, sharing it, or copying activation details. The text explicitly recognises that this eSIM might be for another phone and gently nudges the user to share or install it.

For returning users who already have one or more Other eSIMs, the journey starts from the list under the Other eSIMs tab. Each eSIM is represented as a card with its avatar, custom name, and key details such as region and active plan. Tapping into a card shows the eSIM details page, including usage and plan history, with a “Buy plan” action. The subsequent experience again reuses the plan group and summary flow, ending with a success message that confirms which named eSIM just received the new plan.

This design keeps the underlying telecom complexity hidden. On the surface, the user is simply topping up “Mum’s phone” or “Work phone”. For Sotel, it unlocks new usage patterns such as multi-device travellers and informal family plans, while keeping billing fair and explicit.
